    Granville at 70th, designed by internationally heralded architects, Henriquez Partners, redefines Vancouver’s West Side.

    Two towers reign skyward offering spectacular views. Street-side townhomes offer a more intimate style of living, amid lush gardens and boulevards. The community of Granville at 70th is defined by a host of vibrant features including live green-walls, rooftop groves and gardens, an outdoor yoga pavilion, indoor/outdoor entertainment lounge, a putting green, library, theatre, and “The Granville Club”, with gym facilities, steam room and sauna. Anchoring the development is a deluxe new Safeway and additional retail.

    Westbank has created a very substantial public art program with the Musqueam Nation for this project, which once again involves the concept of enmeshing the art into the architecture.

    TELUS Sky will be a new architectural landmark in Calgary’s downtown core, transforming the entire 7th Avenue block into one of the most technologically innovative and environmentally friendly sites in North America.

    TELUS Sky, a 58-storey development in the 100 block of 7 Ave. S.W., will incorporate office space, retail stores and 341 residential rental suites.

  3. Vancouver House

    Joining the skyline as the fourth tallest building in Vancouver, Vancouver House, currently one of the world’s most talked about real estate projects, includes both high and low-rise structures.

    A slender base forms the nine-storey podium, ultimately widening into the 515-foot residential tower as it rises to meet the sky.

    Vancouver, for all its success as a well-planned city, has often been accused of having a lack of visual interest on its skyline. On the other hand, changes to the skyline could also be damaging if attempted on the wrong site, or by development teams without the experience or talent to do it well. The design of any building should be a function of the particular constraints and characteristics of each site and in the case of Vancouver House, the solution that BIG arrived at is very much a direct response its site.

    The net result is a unique building typology that will certainly create a more interesting skyline and be the most advanced form of real estate.

  5. 6th & Fir

    6th&Fir features a unique curved form designed by Henriquez Partners Architects. This intimate residential development of 47 homes features panoramic views of English Bay, Stanley Park, Downtown, The North Shore Mountains and False Creek.

    As Vancouver and Toronto get built out and the obvious parcels of land or assemblies get developed, smaller less obvious urban infill sites such as 6th & fir will become a more important part of our business. 6th&Fir offers a YYoga Centre in the building as an amenity to enhance the well-being of residents in addition to extensive outdoor gardens and artist studios. The site had originally been programmed by another developer working with the late Arthur Erickson and Nick Milkovich and was conceived as a four-storey project which filled the site. Our team looked at this project entirely differently and instead maximized both views and setbacks and designed what I think it’s one of our most beautiful buildings.


  6. 60 West Cordova

    60 West Cordova came along at exactly the right time for Westbank, enabling us to continue to contribute positively to the neighbourhood around Woodward’s.

    60 W. Cordova is a prototype for providing achievable home ownership in Vancouver. Based on principles of inclusivity and doing more with less, developed in collaboration with Vancity, Portland Hotel Society and Habitat for Humanity. By working with our partner Vancity, which was an absolutely first-class experience from the start, we managed to create 96 affordable market homes. Working with the Portland Hotel Society Community Services (PHS) and Habitat for Humanity meant that an additional 12 deeply discounted homes were offered. To do this, we utilized a variety of strategies such as offering very limited parking, creating additional density, spending almost nothing on marketing and reducing selling expenses. Combined with an innovative financing package by Vancity this resulted in truly affordable housing in a city which is notoriously unaffordable.

  7. 700 West 8th

    700 West Eighth Avenue is tailored to the urban fabric of Vancouver’s Fairview Slopes. Its massing is broken down into two mini towers – 17 storeys and 12 storeys – that are adjacent to the taller buildings along the busy thoroughfare of Broadway.

    Originally a parking lot for an adjacent hotel and casino, the project team took a completely fresh look at the best typology for this site which involved a fairly long and at times noisy rezoning that utilized a portion of the heritage density that we had created at Woodward’s. With ten townhouses, six non-market senior’s apartments, and 106 market residential units, the project contributes to Vancouver’s eco-density initiative. It brings an influx of people within walking distance of the shopping, offices, entertainment, and transit located along the busy Broadway/Cambie corridor. A series of green walls and landscaped terraces and roofs are woven throughout the project. A large pool in the central courtyard reflects the sun, maximizing natural light. Sustainability features include geothermal heating and cooling, rainwater retention, and solar shading. Extensive planting walls animate the façade while lessening heating and air conditioning demands.With interior design by award-winning McFarlane Green Biggar Architecture + Design, the homes at 700 West 8th feature a level of finishings above and beyond the rest. Spacious layouts and thoughtful design make 700 West 8th an uncompromising choice.

  8. Shangri-la Toronto

    Westbank’s first foray into the Toronto market, this 705-foot tower features a 202-room Shangri-La Hotel and 395 luxury residential condominiums, located on Toronto’s most celebrated street.

    Westbank arrived in the grandest of style with a 700 foot tower featuring a 5-star Shangri-la Hotel and luxury residential condos. The 873,000 sf development is bordered between the entertainment and financial districts, offering the convenience and vibrancy of urban living with the legendary services of a 5-star Shangri-la Hotel. The two-storey glass atrium and podium is a focal point on University Avenue across the street from the new Opera House.

    The 67-storey tower has a folding façade that recognizes the ceremonial nature of the neighbourhood while elegantly articulating the various uses within the building, and is anchored on both ends by three-storey glass cubes to showcase the specialty restaurant and event spaces.

    The project offers owners and hotel guests a host of amenities including access to the world-famous Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalie Paris, a lap pool with hot tub, fitness centre, function spaces, specialty restaurants – one of which is Momofuku – a three-storey and tri-concept restaurant by lauded New York chef, David Chang, and Soho House Toronto – which has set up a permanent home in a 10,000 square-foot space on Bishops Block inhabiting a building dating back to the 1800s. The building, which was originally one of Toronto’s first ever hotels, has been carefully restored brick by brick by Westbank as part of the development.


  9. Fairmont Pacific Rim

    In the summer of 2006, Westbank commenced construction on one of the last remaining development sites in Coal Harbour to add yet another landmark building to Vancouver’s waterfront.

    The Fairmont Pacific Rim fuses the luxury brand of Fairmont Hotels and Resorts with Westbank’s reputation for quality design and construction. This property consists of a world-class 377-room Fairmont Hotel and 175 luxury residential homes with unparalleled views along, with amenities and services for which Fairmont is famous for. This exciting new development is now Westbank’s latest stamp on the Vancouver skyline. Canada’s top hotel opened for the 2010 Winter Olympics and British Artist Liam Gillick’s installation “….lying on top of the building the clouds looks no nearer than when I was lying on the street” integrates art and architecture. ORU, giovane, the Lobby Lounge, and Willow Stream Spa.


  10. 188 Keefer

    188 Keefer was developed in partnership with Trans-Pac Group of Companies. It is situated on one of the most important corners in Vancouver’s Chinatown.

    Taking inspiration from the vibrant Chinatown neighbourhood, 188 Keefer was thoughtfully designed by renowned architect, W.T. Leung. Contemporary amenities, mixed-use retail and services at street-level add to the convenience of living here. The brick podium and precast concrete cornice are characteristics of architectural expressions found throughout Chinatown, while the taller tower component is symbolic of the new emerging architectural form in Chinatown. Residents at 188 Keefer will be greeted with an ornamental entry, inspired by a traditional Chinese Moon Gate. Traditionally found in Chinese gardens, this architectural feature acts as a peaceful oasis, welcoming residents with a calming water feature and beautiful garden. The entry at 188 Keefer will incorporate heritage style pavers and modern glass elements as an architectural nod to Chinatown’s past and future, welcoming residents home. The feature concrete wall on the tower will be home to a public art installation by accomplished Vancouver artist Ron Terada. We hope that it’s the start of a rebirth of what should be one of Vancouver’s most vibrant and culturally rich neighbourhoods.


  11. TELUS Garden

    TELUS Garden transforms an entire city block in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

    Envisioning this important city block, bounded by Georgia St, Richards, Seymour and Robson, as an integrated whole, rather than a series of development sites was the concept of TELUS President and CEO, Darren Entwistle. Westbank was chosen to partner with TELUS and bring that original vision to reality. There are so many aspects of this project which excite us, including using new technologies to achieve a LEED Platinum designation. We believe this may be one of the most important developments in Vancouver’s recent history and Gregory Henriquez and his team are giving it their best work to date.


  12. The Lauren

    The LAUREN is the first new high rise purpose-built market rental building to be built in the West End in decades.

    The LAUREN comprises of 186 purpose built rental units, consisting of 22 stories. The contextually sensitive podium consists of six townhouses at grade of 3-bedrooms for families, and 180 one and two-bedroom rental apartments above. An amenity room is provided on the ground level, and there are 2.5 levels of underground parking with bicycle storage. The tower is sculpted and set back from Comox Street significantly to allow for ample daylight to its surroundings. A large new open green space is provided on the Comox Street frontage, with community gardens and children’s playground for public use and public art.
